Save the Date Cards are announcements that inform your guests of your future wedding in order to keep your special day free. They are essential in the following situations: if many of your guests are traveling to your wedding, your wedding takes place on or around a holiday, you are planning a faraway destination wedding, or your wedding will take place in a seasonally busy or tourist locale, where the flights and hotels perhaps book up early.

Valentine's Day Engagements and Weddings

2/16/2009 11:05:40 AM ~ Posted By Lei Lydle

Valentine's Day seems to be the perfect day to get engaged or married - love is all around...roses abound. Personally, I did not get engaged or married on a special holiday but I love to hear stories of those who did.

This weekend I attended 11 or maybe 12 weddings on Valentine's Day. Rhodes Hall hosted weddings at their fabulous facility every 15 minutes - I believe they hosted 25 weddings that day in total. It was such a fun day and I wish I could have stayed for every wedding because each couple's story was unique and fascinating. I am writing a separate article about this event with pictures and video so keep an eye out for it!

A few years ago, I went to a wedding reception on Valentine's Day. The actual ceremony was at a church but only family were invited. The reception for friends was just at a local neighborhood pub - no private room or anything. This was a second wedding for both the bride and groom so they chose something small, informal and very sweet. Everyone cheered when they arrived at the pub and it was truly a festive occasion. Lots of impromptu toasts...hugs and smiles all around. The couple looked very happy.

If you got engaged or married on Valentine's Day, please share your story with us.

How to Choose A Calligrapher for Your Wedding

1/16/2009 8:45:06 AM ~ Posted By Maren Nicholas, Dreamweaver Calligraphy

“Why choose a calligrapher?” you might ask. Your wedding invitation is the first thing your guests will see about your wedding. It sets the tone for your whole day. Many calligraphers can help you achieve the impressive look you desire by writing in a style that can fit in with any theme, from modern to traditional. As the bride, you decide what is the impression you want to make and then you go from there. The calligraphy on the envelope helps set the mood for your wedding. A beautifully addressed envelope or handwritten calligraphy placecards tells your guests “I thought about you today”. They know the extra work went into making a special impression and many keep the artwork as a souvenir of the time they had at your wedding.

Read the entire article for tips on choosing a calligrapher for your wedding.

Your Wedding Invitation Can Create A

You Don't Get A Second Chance To Make A First Impression

When you are looking for vendors such as caterers, photographers, etc. You should start looking around and talking to calligraphers. You want to make sure that you choose a calligrapher who is willing to work with you to add your style and personality to your wedding.  You may be disappointed if you wait until the last minute to find that the calligrapher you had in mind is either not available for your dates or is not able to add the style that you want for your wedding.

It is important to ask for samples, references, portfolio, estimate, and a firm quote for the information that you provide.

Make sure that your calligrapher uses waterproof ink or knows how to water proof your envelopes, or the weather could ruin their beautiful work.  Ask how they achieve the look...do they dip their pen in ink, do they use gel pens, etc.  Though you can achieve a beautiful look with ink pens it is not creating the authenticity that you may want.

Don't be shy about asking questions, you want someone who is going to work with you.

Done right, a calligrapher can work with you to create a "must attend" status starting with your wedding invitations and then moving on, adding "an elegant touch" to certain aspects of your wedding to help make your wedding dream come true.
